RACINE- On Monday, October 23, 2023, seventh-grade students in Ms. Jenny Manuel's classroom were given a brief lesson on welding as a part of a career exploration initiative. Mrs. Amy Roush also accompanied the group.
The students were excited to go to the high school to listen to a presentation by Ms. Jenna Meeks.
Ms. Meeks went over safety procedures and gave the students protective gear. She discussed a couple of types of welding including Arc, Mig, and Cutting Torch.
The seventh graders said they had fun watching the high school Agriculture Mechanical Principles (Shop 1) class in action. They stayed at a safe distance to watch the welders.

RACINE, OHIO- On Monday, October 23, 2023, Project RISE’s Amy Robinson and Kami Perritt visited Southern High School.
They stopped by Mr. Alan Crisp’s classroom to talk to students about careers in different fields. Mrs. Brittany Hill was also in attendance.
They also played Career Taboo to help students learn about different professions.

Rio Grande, OH- On Wednesday, October 18, juniors at Southern High School went to the University of Rio Grande for a college fair.
Representatives from dozens of colleges and universities were on hand to help students prepare for their futures.

RACINE- On Tuesday, October 17th, 2023, seventh-grade students in Mr. Jeff Caldwell’s classroom were given a brief lesson on welding as a part of a career exploration initiative.
The students took an adventure to the high school to listen to a presentation with Ms. Jenna Meeks.
The first part of the lesson focused on safety, which included the importance of safety glasses and protective gear and not looking directly at the welding sparks without the welding helmets.
Ms. Meeks then discussed a couple of types of welding- Arc, Mig and Cutting Torch. She also allowed students to watch the high school Agriculture Mechanical Principals (Shop 1) class in action.
Ms. Meeks also chatted about the negative and positive aspects of the job to give the students a realistic view of the career field.

Volleyball team advances to Sectional Finals (Wednesday) with their win over Manchester (won in 3) tonight.
The first round of the OHSAA Volleyball sectional tournament will be hosted at Southern High School this Monday, October 16, 2023 at 7:00 pm.
