Southern Locals' kitchen staff made a great holiday dinner (ham, mashed potatoes and gravey, green beans, roll, and ice cream). They even received a little help serving.
FFA members delivered food baskets to 4 families in our area today. Thank you to our members for donating non perishable items, our chapter for donating the extra fruit and the The Local Butcher for the meat. Hopefully this will make the holidays a little bit easier for these families.

RACINE, OHIO- On Thursday, November 30, 2023, students at Southern Local Junior High School learned about careers in cosmetology.
Jodi Ditterline, an Education Specialist from Great Clips, spoke to the 7th and 8th grade students about the different career paths within cosmetology, such as hair, skin, and nails. She also provided information on the education required to become a hair stylist or barber, including the associated costs and necessary skills for the job.
During the event, Jodi allowed the students to use her expensive hair tools to cut and buzz cosmetology mannequins, providing them with hands-on experience in the field. Thank you Jodi.
We would like to extend our gratitude to the junior high teachers for their support in organizing this valuable career exploration experience for the students.
Ms. Meeks' Greenhouse class has been caring for herbs in a 49 day trail for Growing Beyond Earth Grant. They are studying/learning how plants are grown in space and conducting research for NASA. Unfortunately our studies did not turn out as good as we had hoped, our herbs were slow growers and we think the cause is from inadequate watering early on which caused our growing media to stay dry throughout. We will conduct this study again later on in hopes for better results.
FFA members attended D10 Leadership Night hosted at New Lexington Middle School put on by Ohio FFA Officers where they learned and participated in different leadership trainings they will be able to use in our own chapter.
