RACINE, OH- On Wednesday, March 26, 2025, a group of eager Southern High School students had the extraordinary opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of career exploration through innovative Virtual Reality (VR) experiences.

The event was spearheaded by Jocelyn Howard, HAPCAP’s Broadband Coordinator, along with Lauren Fitch, an enthusiastic intern at HAPCAP and Ohio University graduate student, and Destany Cox and Ashley Hill, both Career Pathways Specialists with Ohio Means Jobs in Meigs County.

They visited the classroom of Mr. Alan Crisp and Mrs. Brittany Hill, where the excitement and curiosity of the students were palpable. As students donned VR headsets, they were transported into a variety of dynamic professional environments. They experienced the fast-paced realm of nursing, stepped into the high-stakes world of surgery, navigated construction sites, learned about road maintenance, and explored many other career paths.

These immersive simulations showcased the thrill of potentially dangerous or complex job scenarios while prioritizing safety. The technology allowed students to practice essential skills and decision-making in a safe environment.

“This was fantastic! It genuinely sparked my students' interest in pursuing different careers. Helping young students prepare for tomorrow's jobs is so important.” Mr. Crisp said, “I even tried it myself and found it incredibly enjoyable! We truly appreciate the time and dedication that went into organizing this VR experience.”

The event not only highlighted the endless possibilities of various careers but also created a vibrant atmosphere of excitement and exploration.
