The Southern Local School District recently held its annual Literacy Night, this year themed as 'Reading Can Take You Anywhere!"

When "travelers" arrived, they were greeted by flight attendants and pilots directing them through their security check and onto their flight.

Elementary classrooms all chose a different country to research in the weeks leading up to the event, with over 15 countries across 6 continents being represented. Students completed and displayed projects ranging from research papers to colorful crafts, and many things in between. These projects were all displayed either in students' classrooms or in the hallways, adding to the evening's decor.

The almost 600 visitors had the opportunity to make and test their own paper airplanes, design a flag, visit a wax museum, do various crafts, visit the Arctic and learn about arctic animals, sample snacks, and browse student projects.

The Southern FFA made a donation of books to be handed out as prizes throughout the night.

Thank you to Katie Ash and Autumn Lisle for coordinating and to the staff that helped make this a success. We look forward to continuing this event in this future, and look forward to seeing everyone in the spring at the annual Math and Science Expo!
