School visit

RACINE, Ohio – On Wednesday, October 30, 2024, Meigs County Prosecutor James Stanley visited Southern High School to discuss career opportunities in the legal field with seniors.

During his presentation, Mr. Stanley detailed his professional journey, encompassing his collegiate experience, his experience at the Athens City Prosecutor's Office, and his current role as Meigs County Prosecutor.

He elucidated the educational prerequisites for pursuing a legal career, including the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) and the requisite measures for successfully passing the bar examination, essential for legal practice within one’s chosen jurisdiction.

Furthermore, Mr. Stanley addressed various critical roles within the legal profession beyond that of an attorney. He highlighted positions such as secretaries, clerks, court reporters, probation officers, security personnel, victim advocates, investigators, and judges. He acknowledged that while not all individuals aspire to become lawyers, these positions are equally vital, requiring differing educational qualifications. Mr. Stanley emphasized the importance of each role in ensuring the fairness of trials and expressed his appreciation for his dedicated team.

GuestMr. Stanley also shared a personal story to show that it's okay for life plans to change. He talked about getting a job at an amusement park when he was younger, thinking it would be exciting. Before he left, his dad told him he could come back home if he didn't like the job. It turned out Stanley didn't enjoy the work, so he followed his dad's advice and came home.

Southern Local High School is grateful for Mr. Stanley's visit, which provided students with valuable insights into the legal profession and a variety of potential career paths. We extend our sincerest thanks to Mr. Stanley for generously sharing his knowledge and experiences with our students.
