STORM Students of the Month

2Londyn Davis - Kindergarten - Nominated by Rachel Hupp

Londyn has done a great job adjusting to Kindergarten this year. She is quick to help other students, without being asked to do so. She has made several new friends in our grade and shows respect to all students when playing. Londyn has a lot of empathy for other students, and makes a positive difference in the classroom every day. Londyn is a wonderful student and is always willing to try new things. She is a Southern Elementary STORM Student. 

3Libby Yonker - 6th Grade - Nominated by Jen Riffle

Libby has always been a role model student. She is always prepared for class. Libby wears a smile every time she comes into the room, which is contagious! She raises her hand when participating in class discussions and does her work in a timely manner. Libby is kind to the other students and does not get in trouble. Above everything else, Libby is not afraid of hard work. She continually gives everything she has to be successful in school, and that drive will push her to success when she leaves Southern Local. Libby is deserving of being a STORM student! 

Southern Jr./Sr. High Students of the Month

4Justin Lawson - 10th Grade - Nominated by Jenna Meeks

Justin has been in FFA for the past three years, and each year he has shown great amounts of growth. Throughout the years, he has matured a lot and shows a drive for improving more and more each day with his shop skills. He is willing to help his peers and teachers with anything they need. Justin is very respectful to all and models the tornado code daily. Justin is a great example of a Southern Local Student of the Month. -Jenna Meeks

Brandon Laudermilt - 12th Grade - Nominated by Beth Lanning

Brandon Laudermilt deserves to be Student of the Month. He consistently demonstrates kindness and courtesy towards everyone in the school community. Whether it’s offering a helping hand to a classmate in need or always greeting teachers and peers with a smile, Brandon embodies the values of respect and empathy. He spends part of his day helping in the elementary, and the students in 5th and 6th grade see him as someone to look up to. He is an exemplary role model for his classmates and truly deserves to be recognized for his outstanding character. -Beth Lanning

6Kayte Manuel - Spanish Teacher - Nominated by Bill Whitlock

Kayte Manuel deserves to be Teacher of the Month. Kayte's thoughtful, caring, and empathetic approach to teaching makes her a standout educator. Her students consistently describe her as inspiring and effective, praising her ability to make her complex subject accessible and engaging. As a colleague, Kayte is exceptionally helpful. She displays an admirable level of patience and is always willing to lend a hand to those around her. Her positive attitude, combined with her passion for both teaching and supporting her peers, makes her an invaluable member of our team. She provides outside opportunities for our students to practice their skills and gain invaluable experience that they would not otherwise have. Kayte is a joy to have as a colleague. -Bill Whitlock

Staff Member of the Month

7Misty Evans - Secretary - Nominated by Olivia Hawley

Not many people know how much Misty Evans does for our school. On top of her regular secretarial duties, she is in charge of the sub book, getting substitutes and keeping them organized throughout each and every day. She also takes care of timesheets and payroll, which are never a walk in the park. These jobs take a lot of dedication to be done properly, and Misty is the one for the job. She is very organized, and is able to keep track of multiple things at once. She does her job very well, every day. Misty stays extra time each day to make sure everything is prepared for the next day. She is the type of person who is willing to find solutions to everyday problems, and isn’t afraid to jump out of her comfort zone to get the job done. There are many students who are comfortable coming to Misty with their problems, and who identify her as a trusted adult in our school. She shows up every day for the whole school community to make sure that everything continues to run as smoothly as possible. Our school wouldn’t be the same without Misty Evans and that is why she deserves to be Southern Local Staff Member of the Month.

FFA Presentation

FFAThe Southern Local FFA Officers presented to the board their 2024-25 planned activities for their Program of Activities.
