On Friday, August 23, 2024, professionals from The Racine Fire Department conducted a training session for selected Southern High School teachers and staff members on the proper operation of the stair chair for injured students and individuals who use wheelchairs.
The training, led by Racine Volunteer Fire Department Captain Charley Pyles and Lieutenant Dax Holman, focused on imparting proper techniques and best practices for utilizing stair chairs.
Southern Local School District leaders, including Southern High School Principal Daniel Otto, know it’s crucial to take proactive measures in enhancing their ability to assist injured students and individuals with disabilities by training their staff on the use of stair chairs in case of emergencies such as fires.
"The training has equipped our teachers and staff to respond effectively to emergencies and provide aid in a variety of scenarios," Mr. Otto commented.
The Southern Local leadership commends the department's dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of all community members, including those with mobility limitations.
