Racine, Ohio: Southern Local School District honored its top achieving students in grades four through twelve tonight at its 2024 Academic Banquet, “Create Your Future”. This event was made possible by the generous sponsorship of Home National Bank and its president, John Hoback. Each student will receive a photo taken by Roots Photography. We would like to thank the following Academic Banquet Committee members for all their hard work and planning: Tony Deem, Christi Hendrix, Daniel Otto, Tricia McNickle, Beth Bay, Olivia Hawley, Baylee Grueser, Kim Grueser, Meg Guinther, Lori Sharp, Russ Fields, and Jenni Roush.. Also Thank you to Ryan Chapman, Jeff Beaver, and Nicholas Hicks for your assistance.
Speaking at the event was: Tony Deem, welcome and student recognition: Brayden Otto, Pledge of Allegiance; Daniel Otto, Master of Ceremonies; Alexis Smith, invocation; Chloe Rizer, benediction; and awards were presented by Board President, Brenda Johnson.
Requirements to attend the banquet were:
Grades 7-12: Student selection shall be based on accumulative academic achievement without any rounding up of grade point average. Note: students who have been assigned to four or more days of alternative schooling, any out-of-school suspension, or expelled will not be selected.
To be honored at the banquet, a student must have the following criteria:
1. Class of 2024: (Grades 7- 12) Be in the top 15% of their class. This number will be determined by the total number of students in the class by the end of the third grading period. (Will use weighted accumulative GPA and will include any and all “specials' ' that receive a letter grade (A, B, C, D, or F)).
2. Class of 2025 and beyond: (Grades 7- 12) Be in the top 15% of their class. This number will be determined by the total number of students in the class by the end of the third grading period. Criteria will not use weighted accumulative GPA but grades 9-12 will use non weighted accumulative GPA. Grades 7 & 8 will include any and all “specials'' that receive a letter grade (A, B, C, D, or F). For grades 9-12 each student must have taken on average 2 honors, AP, or the CCP equivalent course a year (labs do not count toward this).
3. This selection is based on the student’s accumulative (weighted- Class of 2024/ unweighted class of 2025 and beyond) GPA at the end of the first semester and must be on A/B honor roll during the third nine weeks.
Grades 4-8:
Grade 4- Be in the top 15% of their homeroom.Selection will be based on students' grade card during the first three terms in the core classes.
Grade 5 and 6- Be in the top 15% of their grade level. Selection will be based on students' grade card during the first three terms in the core classes.
