Racine, Ohio: On Tuesday, February 6, 2024, Southern Elementary School Principal, Mrs. Tricia McNickle celebrated her birthday. To honor the big day, the teachers, staff, and students at the school organized a food drive in her honor.
Mrs. McNickle has always been passionate about helping those who suffer from food insecurities at Southern Local, so this was a thoughtful and meaningful gesture. The surprise was revealed to Mrs. McNickle in the elementary gym where she was greeted with the "Happy Birthday" song.
The team had managed to keep this a secret from her. The donated items included cereal, tuna, soup, and other non-perishable goods. Homemade cake kits were also assembled to make the day special for those in need.
The elementary school counselor, Olivia Hawley, and the Southern Federal Programs Coordinator, Beth Bay, led the effort.
The food collected will be distributed to families of Southern Local students.
Mrs. McNickle expressed her gratitude towards the teachers, staff, students, and community members who made this possible. She said, "I was very surprised. The students brought in all that food and I didn't notice it. They hid it very well. I am very blessed to have such wonderful and generous teachers, staff, students, and community members."
If anyone connected to the school needs help providing food for their family, they can contact Mrs. McNickle at the school.
Overall, it was a heartwarming and memorable birthday for Mrs. McNickle.
